Got a stitch, Arnold? Cycling Schwarzenegger feels the burn during a heavy workout in Los Angeles

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Pounding the pavement: Schwarzenegger took his security team on the bike ride through Brentwood

Former Mr Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger still enjoys a good workout - although from the looks of things working up a sweat might not be as easy as it once was.

The action film star turned politician - who recently ended his stint as governor of California - seemed to be feeling the burn as he went for a cycle ride through Brentwood on Monday.

Arnold, now 63, was joined on the trip by a friend and his security team, who seemed to be having trouble keeping pace with him - but at one point his heavy workout apparently became too much even for him.

As he cycled uphill, he started to look tired - and at one point clutched hold of his side as though he was feeling the strain.

The ride appeared to go more smoothly when the trio of cyclists were on flatter ground - although he still left his fellow riders lagging behind.

However the exertion did not wear him out completely, and he still managed to help his security team attach the bikes to the side of their vehicle after they had finished cycling.

Austrian-born Arnold - who is best remembered for the Terminator series of films as well as hits such as Total Recall and Conan The Barbarian - stood down as California governor in January this year.

However he has not yet confirmed what he plans to do next, with speculation that he has been flooded with offers to make a big Hollywood comeback.

Arnold took a break from films during his time in charge of the state but returned to the big screen in 2010 with an uncredited appearance in the Sylvester Stallone action thriller The Expendables.

However even he recently admitted that he was unsure what path his career would take.
Will I still have the patience to sit on the set and to do a movie for three months or for six months, all of those things? I don't know,' he tweeted in October in a rare exchange

However the father of four, who is married to Maria Shriver, did hint that as well as writing his memoirs and considering film offers, he is interested in continuing his efforts to protect the environment.

He said on his Twitter page, ‘There are a lot of important things that I want to say. My struggle for reform will continue, my belief in environmental issues and in protecting the environment will continue.'
