Phew, I didn't die! Corrie stars get glammed up for party after devastating scenes in dramatic live episode

By Jody Thompson

And relax...Sacha Parkinson, Georgia May Foote and Brooke Vincent let their hair down after last night's hour-long Coronation Street live episode

They'd got through an impressive hour-long live episode to mark the legendary soap's 50th birthday - and the Coronation Street cast marked the momentous occasion by partying into the early hours last night.

After the pressure of the dramatic scenes as Weatherfield suffered death and destruction, the cast let off steam and let down their hair for a show post-mortem.

After dust, devastation, dirt and soot, the ladies of the Street took the opportunity to glam up for the bash at Sakura Japanese restaurant in Manchester.

Sacha Parkinson (Sian Powers) however looked like she was regretting wearing her tiny black Lipsy frock and white wedge heels in the sub-zero temperatures.

Meanwhile, Simon Gregson - who plays Steve McDonald - carried on his on-set acting by striking silly poses as the cast cut loose after weeks of rehearsing through the night.

Others celebrating dodging death on the cobbles were, representing the Corrie ladies, Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster), Georgia May Foote (Katy Armstrong), Alison King (Carla) and Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw).

The men who pitched up meanwhile included Mikey North (Gary Windass), Craig Gazey (Graeme Proctor), Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) and Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs).

Former Corrie actor turned stage star Richard Fleeshman, who played Craig Harris, also joined the party.

The live episode was watched by an estimated 15 million viewers last night and got an overall thumbs up from critics and viewers alike, despite some accusations of bad acting and a few bloopers.

Over-the-top: Many fans took to their Twitter pages accuse Jenny McAlpine of overacting as her character Fiz Stape went into early labour

The ambitious show involved 65 actors and a 300-strong crew portraying the aftermath of a devastating gas explosion and tram crash.

Molly Dobbs and Ashley Peacock died in the aftermath of the disasters, while Pete Barlow has been left fighting for his life and Rita Sullivan lies unconcious and undiscovered in the rubble of The Kabin.
